1964 was the year the Beatles came to America, Cassius Clay became Muhammad Ali, and 3 civil rights workers were murdered in Mississippi. It was the year when Berkeley students rose up in protest, African Americans fought back against injustice in Harlem, and Barry Goldwater’s conservative revolution took over the Republican Party. In myriad ways, 1964 was the year when Americans faced choices.
Synopsis

At a time of unprecedented global challenges, the under-30 “millennial” generation has every reason to be fatalistic and disengaged. Yet in fields ranging from public health to education, plenty of millennials are engaged. Call it the empathy revolution. Extreme By Design brings this revolution vividly to life by capturing the experience of 40 students from Stanford University’s Institute of Design (aka the d.school) as they create products that may save thousands of lives in Bangladesh, Indonesia and other developing countries they visit as part of a class called Design for Extreme Affordability.

The students apply the “Design Thinking” approach, tapping previously undiscovered creativity and draw on methods from engineering and industrial design, and combine them with ideas from the arts, tools from the social sciences, and insights from the business world. Believing that they can and will make a difference, the students open their hearts and brains and remarkably, almost magically, their products take shape and work.

The film follows one principal student from each of three teams. The physical, mental and emotional challenges each participant faces create a compelling narrative and teach them important lessons along the way. The narrative begins on the first day of the class and ends eight months later with one group of students returning to Asia to test their device in the field amid plans to launch a startup.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- JULY 21, 2012 -- CONSTITUTION USA with Peter Sagaltakes to the road for a fresh and surprising journey through the 4,418 words — and 27 amendments — that made America. Breathing new life into the traditional civics lesson, Peter Sagal, host of NPR’s popular “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me” travels across country on a Harley Davidson to find out where the Constitution lives, how it works and how it doesn’t … how it unites us as a nation, and how it has nearly torn us apart.

“The Constitution was, and is, an imperfect document, and its strength lies in the ongoing arguments about its meaning, as much as what’s in the original text,” Sagal says. “I’m looking forward to digging into this stuff … And also, getting to ride a motorcycle.”

CONSTITUTION USA, a production of TPT National Productions in association with Insignia Films, will premiere on PBS in spring 2013 to coincide with the 225th anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution. It is produced and directed by Insignia Films’ Stephen Ives and Amanda Pollak (THE WEST; AMERICAN EXPERIENCE documentaries “Lindbergh,” “Seabiscuit,” “Las Vegas,” “New Orleans” and “Kit Carson”) and executive produced by Catherine Allan of Twin Cities Public Television (HOOP DREAMS, LIBERTY! THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION and SLAVERY BY ANOTHER NAME).

At a time when Columbia University polls indicate that more people can identify the Three Stooges than the three branches of government, CONSTITUTION USA sets out to illuminate this remarkably misunderstood document. Traveling from Tyler, Texas, to Missoula, Montana, from Cranston, Rhode Island, to Berkeley, California, Sagal introduces viewers to some of today’s major constitutional debates and talks with ordinary Americans and leading constitutional experts about what the Constitution actually says and what it means, the dramatic historical events and crises that have defined it, and why all this matters. Far from being a dry historical survey,CONSTITUTION USA will be a story of personal emotion, passion, big ideas and high stakes that continues today.

“Bringing history alive from multiple viewpoints and offering innovative teaching tools is part of PBS’ core mission,” said John F. Wilson, PBS senior vice president and chief TV programming executive. “We’re looking forward to a new generation learning more about America and about one of the critical documents that inform how we live our lives.”

Throughout, the series will vividly illuminate key topics and themes that are essential to understanding the Constitution, including how unique and revolutionary this document was; the historic freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights; the struggle by African Americans, women and other groups for inclusion; and how conflict and compromise were “baked into” the Constitution.

Featuring a powerful social media component and innovative educational partnerships with The National Constitution Center, iCivics and PBS NEWSHOUR,CONSTITUTION USA will reach citizens across a variety of platforms, inviting them to connect around our shared political legacy.

Major funding for CONSTITUTION USA with Peter Sagal is provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and public television viewers.

Before entire networks were built on populist personalities; before reality morphed into a TV genre; the masses fixated on a single, sociopathic star: controversial talk-show host Morton Downey, Jr.
In the late ‘80s, Downey tore apart the traditional talk format by turning debate of current issues into a gladiator pit. His blow-smoke-in-your-face style drew a rabid cult following
The film makes its World Premiere at Hot Docs film festival at the end of this month. It was my pleasure to score this Film

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbrFOyzwKr0

MOTHERS OF BEDFORD is a straightforward accounting of the fastest growing prison population in the United States. It is shocking in its statistics, yet moving in its depiction of women who are learning to take responsibility - for their actions, for themselves, and for their children. These women tell their stories to the camera - to us - without excuses. And Jenifer McShane makes us care about them simply by showing us their lives, and their children's lives, without manipulaton. MOTHERS OF BEDFORD is a beautiful documentary about a group of women that we've never seen before in this fashion.

--Marian Masone, Film Society of Lincoln CenterPeter Rundquisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13590281396903334305noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037859575138042872.post-67894249135867351962011-04-19T09:36:00.000-07:002011-04-19T09:38:20.901-07:00Buck does it Again!! His gift isn’t with horses – though he knows how to soothe those sometimes-savage beasts. Instead, Buck clicks with owners, explaining how a horse acts as a mirror into its rider’s soul (and some cowboys sure don’t like what they see). “Buck” certainly is a crowd-pleaser, and I can see why audiences at Full Frame were wooed.Peter Rundquisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13590281396903334305noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037859575138042872.post-76610973496612917482011-01-20T06:00:00.000-08:002011-01-20T06:10:03.351-08:00A Man A Plan A Canal Panama
"Panama Canal" on PBS-January 24th!

Music Composed by Peter Rundquist

Another Bang Up collaboration with the Folks at Insignia Films.

On August 15th, 1914, the Panama Canal opened, connecting the world’s two largest oceans and signaling America’s emergence as a global superpower. Buck Brannaman - master-horseman, trick-roper, raconteur and no-nonsense philosopher - is a true grit cowboy who travels the world enlightening his followers with a wisdom that's frequently more about human relationships than about horses. As Buck says in his signature, hard won wit. "Often instead of helping people with horse problems, I'm helping horses with people problems".

BUCK, a poetic and visually stunning feature documentary, follows Brannaman from an abusive childhood that almost “broke” him, through early fame and foster care, to a life of fiercely dedicated work as a teacher, who possesses near magical abilities as he dramatically transforms horses with understanding and respect. He often expounds on the similarities of redirecting the mind and energy of troubled horses with the trials of parenting children.

The astonishing strength of character it takes Buck to overcome and transcend the darkness in his past is poignantly reflected in the relationship with his youngest daughter Reata, who is becoming nearly as good a rider and roper as her dad. Driven by his mission to enlighten his followers, he spends nine months a year away from home. He travels alone in his horse trailer from clinic to sold-out clinic, from Maine to California, from Beeville, Texas, to Libby, Montana, dealing with often fractious horses and humans. But as he says to his students: “If you got a taste of what I’m talking about, you couldn't get enough of it. You’d rather do that than eat. You may spend your whole life chasing it, but it’s a good thing to chase."Peter Rundquisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13590281396903334305noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037859575138042872.post-10461422722088331972010-07-01T06:40:00.000-07:002010-07-01T06:44:43.261-07:00RETRO FUNKY for Doctor VINAhhh Dr.VIN I churned out the Porn Funk for this one.
It's so wrong it's just right.

Peter Rundquisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13590281396903334305noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037859575138042872.post-26775940479286331852010-05-18T10:39:00.000-07:002010-05-18T10:48:41.942-07:00College Boys Live now on DVD
A movie I scored for director George O'Donnell is out on DVD .

Check out the TRAILER

In a quiet Orlando, Florida, suburb three young men struggle to escape the wreckage of their pasts and create new lives for themselves. Their new home is CollegeBoysLive.com, a voyeur webcam house rigged with 32 cameras, where their every move is watched by thousands of paying members. They spend one year struggling with startups to peddle drip irrigation in Pakistan, LED lights in India, and toilet service in Kenya.

The New Recruits takes an unflinching look at social entrepreneurship, a movement touted as the new alternative to charity—its ideals, practitioners, and realities. An unlikely cross between The Apprentice and Slumdog Millionaire, The New Recruits is a hilarious, evocative, edge-of-your-seat thrill ride along a road paved with good intentions.
Preview Here:

Peter Rundquisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13590281396903334305noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037859575138042872.post-92035851317201709072010-05-05T08:21:00.000-07:002010-05-05T08:29:24.214-07:00"CHALK TALK" score for Gatorade Web Documentary

Go inside the G series Mobile Locker Room with St. Louis Rams Defensive End
Chris Long.

Music by Peter Rundquist

http://www.gatorade.com/default.aspx#mobilelockerroom?s=chalk-talkPeter Rundquisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13590281396903334305noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037859575138042872.post-65087702808415719392010-05-01T12:38:00.000-07:002010-05-01T12:49:54.945-07:00Roads To Memphis
Check out my most recent filmscore on PBS' American Experience.

On April 4, 1968, escaped convict James Earl Ray shot and killed Dr. Martin Luther King.
